14 David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem. 15 And David said with longing, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!” 16 So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David.
2 Samuel 23:14-16

I am stirred this morning by the dedication of these men. While the enemy held Bethlehem, King David uttered a wish that he could drink of the water there. Three of his mighty men and faithful servants broke through the battle line and brought the water back to David. How much they loved him! They were willing to risk their lives in order to bless their King.

Paul and Barnabus were called by the early church leaders, “men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Acts 15:26 They knew the risks involved in serving their king. But they gladly took those risks so that they could please the king they loved.

I pray that I may be willing to risk everything for the sake of my king.

Lord, give me a heart that loves you so much that I would fight through a battle line to please you. May even the least of your desires Lord move my heart deeply until I’m willing to risk all to fulfill Your will!
