1 As the time of King David’s death approached, he gave this charge to his son Solomon: 2 “I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man. 1 Kings 2:1-2
What a powerful charge David gave to his son. He knew that he was about to “go where everyone must go” that is, to die. He wanted to leave behind some words for his son to live by. He told him two things:
1. Take Courage
2. Be a Man
I have heard it said that no young man feels like he is a man until his dad says so. I think David was doing this right here. He was passing the torch to Solomon so that he could carry on. David had already gathered building materials for Solomon to use in building the temple. David would never see it, yet he provided for it.
May I sow seed into my children in the same way! May my life pass along something to them that will bring fruit that will far outlive me.
