"Who is a God like You, Pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in mercy." Micah 7:18
I am so stricken by the thought that God Himself doesn't retain His anger forever. This word retain means to cling to or hold on to tightly. So what this passage is saying is that God gets angry with things, but He doesn't cling to His anger forever. Yet I have met many Christians who do exactly that. If they have something to be angry about, they hold on to it and cuddle up to it as if it were a pet. These people are usuallly miserable and bitter.
I don't want to be like that! I will strive to let go of any anger in my heart against others. Rehearsing over and over again a list of hurt and offense against me only pulls me down. I will refuse to nurse my hurt. Instead I will release it and forgive!
Lord, help me to be like You! Help me to let go of my hurts!
