You Talk Too Much

Too many words make you a fool. Ecclesiastes 5:3

The more words you speak, the less they mean. Ecclesiastes 6:11

Most of us talk way too much. We are quick to spout our opinions at every opportunity. We can be very quick on the draw when a conversation forms around a topic on which we are opinionated. Some of us don’t even think through what we are about to say. In the desire to start talking we just “launch” and hope it will come out ok.

In Mark chapter nine Jesus took three disciples up on a mountain and was transformed before them. Peter was there, the classic big mouth. One of the funniest verses in the Bible is found here. It says that Peter started speaking because he didn’t know what to say. I’m going to give you some good advice today: “When you don’t know what to say, don’t start talking!”

Two things from Ecclesiastes and I’ll stop:

1. If you talk too much, people lose regard for you. (Ecc. 5:3)

2. If you talk too much, you lose your voice. I don't mean your ability to make sounds, but your ability to speak into the lives of others. (Ecc. 6:11)
