Taking Initiative

Will Rogers said, "Even if you are on the right path, you will get run over if you just sit there."

One of the things I try to practice and teach others is the habit of taking initiative. I see many people asking God to reveal His will to them, when they already have several things in their lives that they know God wants them to do, yet they haven't begun to do at all. How can I expect God to reveal something new about His plan for my life when I haven't yet done several things that He has already told me to do?

I heard from a pastor this week that he had been driving down the road to his church one Sunday morning and noticed that someone had spilled several garbage bags full of trash on the road. It really irked him to think that they left that trash there and refused to pick it up. After church he was driving home and saw the trash still there, but now it was being scattered all over the road. Again he was irked. As he got home he began to complain to his wife when suddenly he heard the Lord whisper in his heart, "Why don't you go pick up the trash?" He headed back to the side of the road and cleaned it all up himself. Later in the week a family visiting his church stopped him and said, "Pastor we have been visiting your church and weren't sure if this was the place for us. But today we saw you picking up trash on the side of the road. We know now that this is the kind of church we want to be a part of."

If you see something that needs to be done, do it! If you have a problem in your life, act on it today. Do something to make it better! As you act, God will show you the next step!

Andy, I don't know what to write or where to write it. One thing on my mind today is that we acknowlege that Christ died for us. True, but people (soldiers) die for others all the time. Rather: I cant imagine the intense suffering Christ went through for each one of us as he hung on the cross.I say "Christ suffered & died for me."Correct me if I'm wrong.P.S. Did you get my bag of old books? Esther
